Fenix T6 V2 Rechargeable LED Torch and Pen

The T6 Halberd V2 is Fenix's updated rechargeable penlight, which is an actual pen to write with as well as a light, and also features a ceramic bead on the tail end that is tough enough to break glass in an emergency.

It is a slim, single tail switch penlight that has a white LED built into the side of the pen at the top which is capable of 80 lumens output on the high setting and also offers a mid and a low setting.

A small button is located just under the LED, and will turn the light on or off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds. When first turned on it will illuminate in the the 1 lumen low mode, which is perfect if you need a small amount of light without disturbing others. It is useful for reading at night or finding the key hole in the dark. Each press of the button will then cycle through low, mid and high.

To prevent accidental activation of the light when not in use, it can be locked out by quickly double pressing the button within 0.5 seconds while the light is off, and the low mode will blink twice to confirm it has been locked. Simply double press the button quickly again to unlock the light and it will turn on in the low mode.

The T6 V2 is powered by a built-in 100 mAh lithium polymer battery, which is recharged via the USB-C charging port. To charge the light simply unscrew the top section of the penlight, just above the knurled grip, and place the bottom half to one side. Plug in the included USB-C cable into the light section and plug the other end into a standard USB-A port or a compatible USB adaptor. The charging indicator light on the switch will go red while charging is in progress and turn off once charging is complete after approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes.

A battery level indicator will automatically display the battery status for 3 seconds when the button is pressed once while the light is off. Constant green indicates 100-85% charge, green flashes is 85-50% charge, red constant is 50-25% charge and red flashes indicates 25-1% critical battery level and that the battery should be charged as soon as possible. If the battery voltage drops below the preset level, the penlight is designed to downshift in brightness level until the low output is reached. When low is reached the battery level indicator will blink red to remind you to charge or replace the battery.

Intelligent over-heat protection will drop the high brightness level if the internal temperature reaches 60°C or above and once the temperature has reduced the user can reselect full brightness. This is to protect the LED from damage and prevent the surface temperature from becoming too high.

While charging the light section, the bottom pen section can still be used to write with and has a retractable nip to keep it safely tucked away when not in use. To reveal the tip of the pen cartridge, twist the body of the pen and it will automatically come out of the body, so you can then begin writing. The pen has black ink and writes extremely smooth, while the indent design in the aluminium body provides a good grip. An ink refill is also included and can be easily swapped over when the first one runs out (be sure to maintain the cartridge holder from inside).

The beauty of having a pen and light in one is that it has two very useful features and is easy to carry, especially with the attached pocket clip which allows you to have the light on your body either as the whole penlight or in two separate parts to light and write. The torch can be used for small tasks and even provide light when writing in a dark room.

Tested in laboratory conditions to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard using the built-in 100 mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery under the temperature of 21±3°C and humidity of 50% - 80%. Results may vary between torch, battery and environments.
