Fenix LR80R Rechargeable LED Searchlight

£399.90

The Fenix LR80R is the darkness destroyer and the largest of the LR series, replacing the hugely popular RC40. This astonishing searchlight can produce a maximum of 18,000 lumens from the 6 x Luminus SST70 LEDs and a beam range that can reach up to 1130 metres!

Two buttons are located on the body of the torch with the right 'H' main button controlling the higher output selection, while the left hand 'L' auxiliary button controls the lower output selection as well as strobe and SOS. Press and hold the right 'H' button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on in high output mode and then each press will cycle through low, mid, high and turbo. To switch to the last used setting in low output mode single press the left button, or press and hold it for 1.2 seconds to access strobe.

Press and hold the left 'L' button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on in low output mode and then each press will cycle through eco, low, mid, high or hold the button down to access strobe and then single press to cycle strobe and SOS. To switch to the last used setting in high output mode single press the left button, or press and hold it for 1.2 seconds to instantly access turbo. Instant access to strobe and turbo can also be done while the torch is turned off.

To prevent accidental activation the LR80R has a lockout function. To access the lockout, with the lamp turned off, press and hold both buttons for 3 seconds and the eco will blink twice to show it is in lockout. Press both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to unlock the light.

The LR80R is powered by the built-in 12000 mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack which is charged inside the torch via the USB Type-C charging port, which is located on the neck of the torch. Lift the dust cover and plug in the USB -C cable at one end, then plug either the standard USB-A end or the USB-C end (revealed by removing the USB-A section) into the included USB adaptor and into the mains. The standard USB-A port will charge at 2.4 A output, and the USB-C port has a 45 W output for faster charging. The five charging indicators that sit above the two buttons will gradually illuminate until all five are solid to show charging is complete after approximately 4 hours when using the 45 W output, and the cable can then be removed and the dust cover replaced.

Next to the USB-C port there is also a USB-A port to be used as as power bank to allow for charging of an external USB-C device using the torch battery. Simply plug the cable into the USB-A port and then connect the other end to your USB-C device, then single press either button on the torch to begin the discharging process of the light, and the indicators will decrease to show that the battery is being discharged.

The five LED indicators also light up when either button is pressed when the light is off when using the included battery pack. Five LEDs is 80-100% power, four LEDs is 60-80% power, three LEDs is 40-60% power, two LEDs is 20-40% and one LED is less than 20% power and the torch should be charged as soon as possible when at this stage.

To prevent danger from the heat generated by the torch, the LR80R features a nifty intelligent sensing circuit that will automatically reduce the output to eco if the head of the torch is within 60 mm of an illuminated object for over 1.5 seconds so that the heat expelled from the torch doesn't cause any damage. Once moved away from the object for over 0.8 the light will recall the last used brightness. As different materials reflect differently, there may be slight deviations in the sensing distance.

A handle is attached to the torch and a shoulder strap is included for easily carrying of the torch.

Please note: The torch will accumulate a lot of heat when used for extended periods in the high output modes, therefore the temperature protection will lower the output of the torch if the temperature reaches 60°C or above. Once the torch has cooled the higher output can be reselected.

It's quite bright

Settings 4/5 out of 8 are plenty bright enough for general use. 7 and 8 are just hilarious. Torch feels solidly built as it should for the price and Torch Direct's delivery time and service were good.
