Fenix HP30R V2.0 Rechargeable LED Head Torch

£219.90 £229.98

The Improved Fenix HP30R V2.0 rechargeable head torch now delivers a maximum output of 3000 lumens when the separate flood light and spot light is combined.

The two side XP-G3 S4 LEDs provide neutral white pure flood beam lighting with no hotspot for smooth beam capable of 1000 lumens, and the central XHP50 LED provides a spotlight with spill lighting that can reach up to 251 metres with a maximum output of 2000 lumens. The spot and flood lighting can be used individually or combined.

A new design feature is the rotary switch that controls all modes and brightness levels, making modes easy to change in an instant. With the switch in the central position and the light off, rotate the switch clockwise to access the main spotlight and continue to rotate to cycle through low, mid, high and spotlight, or rotate anticlockwise to access the side flood LEDs and cycle through low, mid and high. Rotate the switch back to centre to turn the light off, or the switch can be rotated further to switch into the opposite mode.

To use the beams combined, simply turn the light on in either mode and then press the button on the rotary switch to enter spot and flood mode. Rotating the switch will cycle through the combined modes, and pressing the button again will exit the combined mode.

A popular feature that has been retained is the ability to removed the battery pack from back of the headband and belt mount it instead, using the included extension cable, to keep head mounted weight to a minimum and protect your batteries at low temperatures. The battery pack itself has had an update though and now uses two larger 21700 lithium-ion batteries which have a high capacity.

The included 21700 rechargeable 5000 mAh lithium-ion batteries are charged inside the battery back via the upgraded USB-C port. Lift the dust cover and insert the USB-C cable, then connect the other end to a USB-A power source. The four charging indicators on the battery pack will start to flash in turn and gradually illuminate until all four are solid to show charging is complete after approximately 4 hours, 30 minutes full charge time. The cable can then be removed and the dust cover replaced to maintain the IP68 dust and waterproof rating.

Alternatively you can use two 18650 lithium-ion batteries (not included), however the 18650 batteries must each be inserted in a ALF-18 battery holder (not included) before inserting it into the battery pack. Certain features will not be available when using 18650 batteries.

As well as powering the lamp, the battery pack can also be used as a power bank to allow for charging of an external USB devices using the USB-A (next to the USB-C). Simply plug the USB-A end of the cable into the port, connect the other end to your device, then single press the button next to the charging indicators to begin the discharging process. The indicators will decrease to show that the batteries are being discharged.

The four LED indicators also light up when the button is pressed while the light is off. Four LEDs is 80-100% power, three LEDs is 60-80% power, two LEDs is 40-60% power, one LED is 20-40% and one flashing LED is less than 20% power and the torch should be charged as soon as possible when at this stage.

When using an 21700 battery, if the battery voltage drops below the preset level, the torch is designed to downshift in brightness level until the low output is reached. When low is reached the lamp will blink 3 times every 5 minutes to remind you to charge or replace the battery. The overheat protection will automatically reduce the turbo lumen output if the temperature of the torch reaches 60°C or above in order to protect the LED from overheating. Once the temperature has dropped below 60°C the turbo can be reselected again.

Four helmet hooks are included so that if wearing a hard hat the head band of the torch can be secured fastened to keep it from moving.

Night into day!

I bought this light principally for caving, having previously had an old Oldham mining light with a lead acid cell! I haven’t actually used yet for caving but just going out at night is incredible. It almost turns night into day. I particularly like the simple single control. Turn one way for flood, the other for spot and press the bit in the middle for both! In this age of complicated menus and App controlled devices this is a welcome relief. Charge life seems amazing too and far more than I would ever need down a cave but that’s a reassuring comfort. My only reservation is the IP66 rating suggesting it can’t be submerged. I’m afraid I may have to test that out as I go through some sump somewhere but it won’t be for long and it won’t be deep so I hope it will be ok. I’m hoping it will be ok in a waterfall!
