Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch

£96.90

The EDC27 is an ultra-slim, high performance rechargeable torch with a maximum output of 3000 lumens in the turbo mode. It features an OLED screen display and utilises a USB Type-C charging port for easy and fast charging.

The OLED display provides information about the current status of the EDC27 when the light is turned on. It successively shows the brightness level & lumen output, the user mode and the run-time remaining. After the screen goes out it can be reactivated by half pressing the power button.

Two independent switches are located at the top of the torch, a power button and a mode button. The power button turns on the EDC27 and then can be used to cycle through the different light outputs with a short half press, as long as the screen is on. The following output modes can be cycled through: Ultra Low, Low, Medium and High. To directly turn the torch to the Ultra Low output simply half press and hold the power button when the torch is off and release to turn the torch off again. Or to directly turn the torch to the Turbo output simply half press and hold the mode button when the torch is either on or off and release to return to the torch's original mode or turn the torch off. The EDC27 will remember the last used brightness level the next time it is turned on.

To prevent accidental activation, the EDC27 has two lockout modes. Lockout 1 is a half lockout mode and disables the use of the power button, however you can still half press and hold the mode button to access turbo or full press and hold the mode button to access strobe should you still need partial access to light in an emergency. This mode is activated by holding down the power button while the light is on until the screen shows a padlock icon with a 1.

Lockout 2 is a full lockout mode and disables all output functions. It is accessed the same way as lockout 1, however you continue to hold the button longer until the screen shows the padlock icon with a 2. To unlock the light from either lockout modes, press the power button once and release and then immediately press and hold until the screen displays the key symbol to show the progress bar for unlocking and the light comes on.

The EDC27 is powered by a built-in 1700 mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery which is recharged via the USB-C charging port located on the side of the torch. Remove the dust cover and plug in the included USB-C cable at one end and plug the other end into a USB port or a compatible USB adaptor. The indicator will blink slowly and the screen will display battery status while charging is in progress and once charging is complete after approximately 1 hour, 45 minutes the indicator will be solid and the screen will display a full battery icon. A battery protection circuit is incorporated that provides over-discharge, over-charge and anti short circuiting protection.

Remaining battery power is indicated by pressing the power switch while the EDC27 is turned off and the OLED screen will display the battery level bar and the voltage. When the battery voltage is below 3.4 V the power indicator beneath the buttons will flash blue every 2 seconds to inform the user to charge the battery.

The advanced temperature regulation module allows the EDC27 to regulate its output and adapt to the ambient environment to maintain optimal performance.

What do I think of my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch. Ace!

I bought my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch quite a while ago. It has taken me a while to get to know what this amazing bit of kit can do! Well it's a torch! yes but's it's more than that! Yes I know it can be useful when taking the rubbish out to find the item you dropped out of the bag blah blah. Now I am a bit older & a bit more savvy, I have bought some work trousers with many pockets in them for all the things it seems you need to carry around in life. In the long pocket next to my Biro pen & propelling pencil is my torch with it's lanyard attached. So I always have it with me. I have found it useful in many ways, one of which was when I broke down in my very old car, I knew I would have to wait a long time for recovery, so I looked up on my phone what to do on my phone, while changing the light settings on my torch when I needed to find the problem. I had a Hi Vis jacket on, but i was in the middle of nowhere. So I used the flashing setting when the van got near so he could find me that bit easier. Yes it's still a torch you say, yes, another time I was walking down an alleyway on a short cut home, when out popped some unwanted people who I was unsure of, as I got near them they asked if they could use my phone, with that I selected the brightest mode, shone it in their faces to temporarily blind them & ran as fast as I could. So for me it's more than a torch. Something I hardly ever leave home without, useful when you lift drops his keys in an unlit pub car park in the rain on a very cold night.
Other stuff. I find the small screen that displays various different things invaluable. Especially if you are going out on a cold winters night, has the torch got enough of a charge, well you can check that, the slimness of it also comes in handy when in your best bib & tucker (a suit) you can easily hide it in your inside pocket. How long does it last, a long time, I have put a bit of string on a label for when I charge it, I charge it so infrequently I nearly forget which one it is, I do use it a lot! Cost, yes it's expensive, but you get what you pay for, very good quality. I really recommend it! Mister XR
