Fenix HM65R Rechargeable LED Head Torch

The Fenix HM65R is a rechargeable head torch that delivers a maximum output of 1400 lumens when the separate flood light and spot light is combined.

For extra durability and resilience the HM65R has triple proofing properties and is made from lightweight magnesium alloy, which is 32% lighter than the equivalent aluminium alloy body, and it is drop resistant to 2 metres distance as well as being waterproof to IP68 standard.

The main right hand Cree XM-L2 U2 CW LED provides a spotlight than can reach up to 163 metres with a maximum output of 1000 lumens in the turbo setting. The left hand XP-G2 R5 NW LED provides flood lighting with a maximum output of 400 lumens and a beam range of 37 metres. The spot and flood lighting are controlled separately and can be used individually or combined.

Two buttons are located on top of the head torch and are operated in the same way with one controlling the flood LEDs and the other controlling the spot LED. Press and hold either button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and then each press will cycle through mid, high, turbo and low for the spot and mid, high and low for the flood LED depending on which button you press. Holding the relevant button for 0.5 seconds will turn the light off and the last used setting will be remembered next time the light is turned on.

To prevent accidental activation the HM65R has a lockout function. To access the lockout, with the lamp turn off, press and hold either or both buttons for 3 seconds and the low flood will blink four times to show it is in lockout. Press both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to unlock the light.

The included 18650 rechargeable 3400 mAh lithium-ion battery is charged inside the headlamp via the USB Type-C charging port which is located on the back of the headlamp. Simply lift the dust cover and plug in the USB Type-C cable at one end and plug the standard USB end into a USB port or a USB adaptor. The four charging indicators that sit between the two buttons will gradually illuminate until all four are lit to show charging is complete, which takes approximately 2 hours with a 3400 mAh battery.

Two CR123A lithium metal batteries can be used with this head torch, however they are not rechargeable therefore please do not attempt to charge the torch with these batteries installed.

The four LED indicators also light up when either button is pressed when the light is off or when the torch is turned on to show remaining battery power. Four LEDs is 81-100% power, three LEDs is 61-80% power, two LEDs is 41-60% power, one LED is 21-40% and one flashing LED is less than 20% power and the torch should be charged as soon as possible when at this stage.

The headband is comfortable and adjustable, has a silicone strip on the inside that channels sweat and rain away from the eyes and the new weaved design is hollow to not only reduce the weight by 30% but also provide more breathability and comfort. On the outer part of the headband there are reflective strips, which are excellent for enhanced visibility. The headlamp bracket is ergonomically designed to comfortably fit the curvature of the head and it also allows the head torch to be tilted within a 60° angle.

Note: *This is the accumulative run-time with the overheat protection active. The output may drop due to the overheat protection. 

Tested in laboratory conditions to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standard using a Fenix 3400 mAh 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable battery under the temperature of 21±3°C and humidity of 50% - 80%. Results may vary between torch, battery and environments.
