Nitecore UT27 Pro Dual Colour Temperature LED Head Torch

£65.94

The Nitecore UT27 is a dual power LED head torch designed with trail runners and long distance runners in mind, offering triple light sources that include a warm white spotlight, a cool white floodlight and an auxiliary red light output. This is the Pro version of the UT27, with the only difference being it is supplied with two lithium-ion rechargeable battery packs instead of just one.

The right side uses a Cree XP-G3 S3 warm white LED with a colour temperature of 3000 K and provides a penetrating spotlight with a beam range of 128 m, which is better at cutting through, rain, fog or snow and ideal for sign searching when out trail running. The left side is uses a Cree XP-G3 S3 cool white LED with a colour temperature of 5700 K, and provides a truevision floodlight with no harsh edges thanks to the precisely calculated lens curve of the ultra thin unibody TIR system that eliminates the central hotspot, which also saves on weight as well as providing a soft uniform beam.

Two buttons on the top of the lamp separately control the spot and flood outputs. The T button operates the spotlight and is turned on with a long press, and then short presses will changed between spot high and spot low. The W button operates the flood light and is turned on with a long press, and then short presses will changed between flood high and flood low. The 520 lumen turbo burst output is a combination of the spot and flood together and is activated by double pressing either button while the light is on. It will remain in turbo for 30 seconds before reverting back to the previous mode, or you can single press the button to exit sooner.

In the centre of the main lights there is two red auxiliary LEDs that offers a constant red output and a red flashing setting. Red light preserves your night vision and is good for wildlife observation, astronomy and night photography. To access the red light double press either button with the light off and it will turn on in constant mode, and a press of either button will cycle to the red flashing. When the light is on in any mode, long press the button to turn it off.

The UT27 has a lockout function to prevent accidental activation in transit or when not in use, and is put into lockout mode by simultaneously holding both buttons down, with the light on or off, until the floodlight flashes to confirm lockout mode is entered. To exit lockout mode hold both buttons down again.

It has a dual power system and can use either the USB-C rechargeable 1300 mAh lithium-ion battery pack (two included with this pro version), or 3 x AAA alkaline batteries which is useful as a back up or while the lithium-ion battery packs are on charge. The battery compartment itself is glow in the dark on the inside, so if you need to stop and replace the batteries while running in the dark, you can easily see where the battery polarities are to correctly change them over.

To charge the battery packs, first remove it from the battery compartment and then insert the included cable into the USB-C port of the battery, and connect the other end to a USB power source. The charging indicator will light up red to show charging is in progress, and turn green once charging is complete after approximately 1 hour, 50 minutes.

A built-in battery indicator will display battery power when either button is short pressed with the light off. Three flashes is above 50% power, two flashes is below 50% power and one flash is below 10% power and the battery should be charged or replaced. The integrated advanced temperature regulation (ATR) technology regulates the output of the UT27 according to the working condition and ambient environment to maintain the optimal performance.

The adjustable headband provides a comfortable fit to the head, features reflective writing on the outside for visibility to others, and a silicone strip on the inside of the head band to channel away sweat as well as provide a non-slip fit. Additionally the head torch is on a hinged bracket, allowing the light to be easily rotated and adjusted within a 90° angle. A stuffing sack is also included which can act as a light diffuser to provide ambient lighting, or can store the head torch when not in use.
