Fenix WH23R Rechargeable Sensor LED Head Torch

£69.90

The Fenix WH23R rechargeable head torch offers an output of 300 lumens from the Lumiled flood LED, and also offers 300 lumens from the Lumiled spot LED which can be used separately or can be used combined in the turbo mode for a maximum output of 600 lumens to suit different tasks.

It features a push button and rotary switch combination to turn the torch on/off, select the mode and change the brightness level, as well as an infrared sensor control switch so that the light can be turned on and off (standby) by waving your hand in front of the torch (approx. 10 cm metres sensing distance). The sensor control is perfect for when you're carrying out tasks where your hands may be dirty so you don't want to touch the torch, or need to quickly turn the light on and off multiple times in the same setting.

The rotary switch turns the torch fully on or off and has four positions which can be cycled between by turning the switch clockwise through the modes off, spotlight, floodlight or combined (turbo). Once turned on the electronic button in the centre of the rotary switch can be used to change the brightness level within the current mode. Each press in either spotlight or floodlight will cycle through low, mid, high with each press, and the combined mode only has one output of turbo. The last used brightness setting in spotlight and floodlight will be remembered the next time the torch is turned on.

Once the torch is turned on using the rotary switch and a setting has been selected, the sensor control (if currently activated) can be used to turn the torch on and off in that setting, however it cannot change brightness. When the light is turned off using sensor control it will only enter standby and will not fully turn the light off until you rotate the switch to the 'off' position, therefore it is important you do this after using the torch as it will drain battery and may turn on unintentionally in a bag.

A sensor indicator is on the side of the head torch, and when it is is blue this notifies the user that sensor control is active, and when no blue light is showing this notifies the user that sensor control is turned off. To active the sensor control, press and hold the electronic button for 1.2 seconds while the torch is turned on and the turbo will flash two times to indicate it has turned on. To deactivate sensor control, repeat the same steps and the turbo will instead flash 8 times to indicate it has turned off.

Two independent switches are located on the top of the head torch for easy operation. The right hand spot button turns the central LED on by holding the switch for 0.5 seconds and then each press after that will cycle through mid, low and high. The left hand flood button turns the side LEDs on by holding the switch for 0.5 seconds and then each press after that will cycle through low and SOS. Both spot and flood are turned off by pressing and holding the corresponding button again.

It is powered by a built-in 2000 mAh lithium polymer rechargeable battery which is recharged via the USB-C charging port on the bottom of the torch. Open the anti-dust cap to reveal the port and plug in the included USB-C end of the cable into the torch and plug the other end into a standard USB-A port or a compatible USB adaptor. The four charging indicators on the front will increase from left to right while charging is in progress and all four will turn solid once charging is complete after approximately 1 hour, 30 minutes.

A single press of the electronic button while off will activate the blue battery indicator LEDs and display the power level for 3 seconds. Four LEDs indicates 80-100% power, three LEDs indicates 60-80% power, two LEDs indicates 40-60% power, one LED indicates 20-40% power and one flashing LED indicates less than 20% remaining, charge the headlamp as soon as possible.

The torch will generate a lot of heat when used in high or turbo for extended periods, therefore the overheat protection will automatically lower the output to reduce the temperature to protect the LED, and once the torch has cooled the high or turbo mode can be reselected.

The fluorescent body provides high visibility, which is useful when working in an industrial environment. The adjustable headband is hard hat compatible, has a hollow design to provide more breathability and the headband also features reflective strips, which are excellent for further enhanced visibility. The hinged bracket allows the WH23R to be adjusted downwards within a 60° angle so you can direct the light source where you need it most.
