Nitecore NU31 Rechargeable LED Head Torch

The Nitecore NU31 is a compact rechargeable head torch that is available in a choice of three colours and provides a maximum output of 550 lumens and a red light designed for preserving night vision.

As well as the primary LED, there is a white side CRI LED flood light and a red side auxiliary LED which is useful for activities such as night reading, astronomy and wildlife observation.

The main LED features a smooth reflector which provides a long reaching central spot of light surrounded by wide flood lighting that provides a 100° angle of illumination for excellent peripheral vision. Additionally the head torch has a hinged bracket, allowing the light to be tilted and adjusted within a 60° angle.

Two independent switches are located at the top of the head torch, a power button and a mode button. Long press the power button to turn on the torch and then short press to cycle through the outputs mid, high and turbo. The turbo output will step down after extended use to prevent overheating and prolong the torchs battery.

To access the ultra low and low outputs double press the power button then short press to cycle from ultra low to low. To access the special modes double press the mode button to access SOS then press the power button to cycle from SOS to beacon. Double press the mode button again to return to the previous status.

To access the red light long press the mode button when the torch is off. When the red light is on short press the power button to switch between constant on and slow flashing. When the light is on you are able to use the mode button to switch between the primary white light, the auxiliary white light and the auxiliary red light.

To prevent accidental turn on the NU31 has a lockout function. When the headlamp is off long press both buttons for two seconds until the primary white light flashes three times to indicate the torch is now in lockout mode. In lockout mode all outputs are unavailable and when the button is pressed the light will flash once to indicate this status. To unlock, long press both buttons for two seconds again until the ultra low is on to indicate the unlock status. If charging in lockout mode the torch will be automatically unlocked.

 The NU31 has an integrated 1800 mAh lithium-ion battery equivalent to seven AAA batteries, that is charged via the USB-C charging port. Reveal the port by lifting the dust cover on the top of the torch and then simply plug the included USB-C cable into the charging port and the other end into a computer/laptop or a suitable USB adaptor. A built in power indicator light on the side of the torch flashes to show the remaining battery power when you press the mode button while the torch is off. While charging the power indicator will flash to inform the level of charge. When the battery is fully charged all four power indicators will become steadily turned on.
