The Fenix HM71R is a rechargeable head torch that delivers a maximum output of 2700 lumens in turbo mode from the main white output.

The left hand Luminus SFT70 white LED provides a spot light, offering a turbo output of 2700 lumens or a low output of 50 lumens and a beam range of up to 230 metres. The right hand Luminus SST20 LED provides a neutral flood light with an output of 500 lumens on the high setting and 5 on the read setting, with a beam range of up to 47 metres.

Two settings of spotlight mode and floodlight mode are available. Press and hold the button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on in spotlight mode, or double press the button to turn the light on in floodlight mode. Once on in either output the light can be switched to the other mode by holding the button down for 1.2 seconds.

When in the spotlight output each press will cycle through low, mid, high and turbo. When in the floodlight output each press will cycle through read, low, mid and high. Holding the button for 0.5 seconds will turn the light off and the last used setting in spotlight mode will be remembered next time the light is turned on, in floodlight mode the torch will always turn onto the read output.

To prevent accidental activation the HM71R has a lockout function. To access the lockout, with the lamp turned off, press and hold the button for 3 seconds and the light will blink four times to show it is in lockout. Hold the button again for 3 seconds to unlock the light and it will blink four times and be activated in read mode.

The included 21700 rechargeable 5000 mAh lithium-ion battery is charged inside the headlamp via the USB Type-C charging port on the back of the torches head. Simply lift the dust cover and plug in the included USB Type-C into a suitable USB power source. The charging indicator will go red to show charging is in progress and change to green charging is complete after approximately 4 hours with a 2 A output.

When the torch is off, pressing the button once will display the battery level indicator for 3 seconds with either a green, green flashing, red or red flashing light to show the battery power remaining and notify you when the battery needs charging. This function is only available with the Fenix ARB-L21-5000 V2.0 battery.

The headband is comfortable and adjustable, has a silicone strip on the inside that channels sweat and rain away from the eyes and the weaved design is hollow to not only reduce the weight but also provide more breathability and comfort. On the outer part of the headband there are reflective strips, which are excellent for enhanced visibility. The headlamp bracket is ergonomically designed to comfortably fit the curvature of the head and it also allows the head torch to be tilted within a 180° angle.

For extra durability and resilience the HM71R is made from lightweight aluminium which provides drop resistance up to 2 metres distance as well as being waterproof to IP68 standard, and also withstands extreme weather temperatures of -35° to 40° (cold weather battery recommended for extreme cold temperatures).
