The Coast HL8R rechargeable head torch has all the great features of the HL8 but includes a lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack and a maximum output of 800 lumens.

The pure beam focusing system allows the user to quickly shift from an ultra wide flood beam to a long reaching spot, with a transition halo for wide viewing even in spot mode, simply by twisting the focusing bezel.

Using the included lithium-ion battery pack the HL8R has a run-time of 4 hours, 15 minutes in high mode and can shine up to 214 metres when focused in to a spot beam. Also included is a AA alkaline battery pack, so that you can change to standard batteries if you run out of charge when away from a power source.

The lithium-ion battery pack is easily charged up using the included USB charging cable that goes into the USB port on the computer or via the mains using the UK and EU USB adaptors. It can also be charged on the go with a car charger adaptor that can be purchased separately on our website.

The light is turned on using the power button located on the side of the headlamp and the three brightness levels are selected using the control wheel. The hinged bracket allows you to rotate the head torch downwards so that you can position the light where you need it most.

The removable battery packs are easily clipped on to a belt or backpack with the use of the 915 mm extension cord. The Coast HL8R head torch can also be used with a hard hat safety helmet using the included helmet clips.

COAST HL8R

Put simply, this is a good headtorch. It is super bright when on the brightest setting and still bright enough for everyday tasks when on medium setting. A full charge of the rechargeable pack is more than enough to allow it to be used all day when switching between high and medium settings without any obvious loss of power. The battery is quick and easy to charge and fit. The headstrap is comfortable to wear all day too. My only gripe is that the section of the headstrap that houses the zig-zag cable could be a bit longer as it doesnt quite cover it all up and a small bit of the cable sticks out a little bit. Its very useful to have the standard battery pack which can be used as a back up if necessary. Its easy to focus the beam quickly from spot to flood. I've only been using it a few days so I can't comment on its longevity however it does seem to be of a sturdy construction. Its bright, it has good flood and spot facility and the battery hours on high setting. I'm very happy with it!

Excellent Headlamp

I was extremely impressed with all aspects of the headlamp. Very well made. 3 levels of luminosity that are sensible; the highest being very bright. Easy to zoom in and out. Two compact power packs, etc. Comfortable to wear. I guess you get what you pay for and this was certainly well worth it. I recommend it.

Coast HL8R

It's not cheap, but it is good. The quality alternatives: PETZL and LEDLENSER are also very expensive for a specification much less than the HL8R. The Chinese cheapos are a list of poor build quality faults and Li-ion batteries that catch fire. The quality of the HL8R build seems good and because the lamp is bright, you can work in a loft on half power all day using the Li-ion pack. Also, the HL8R comes with a standard AA battery pack, which is good as a backup if the Li-ion runs out of charge. Charging does take a while on the mini-usb charger and the charging unit is a bit flimsy, but as it is a USB-based charger you should be able to use a good quality high output charger with a USB socket. I use it for working in dark locations, like a loft, and I find it comfortable and secure to wear for several hours at a time. I can't comment on what it is like to use outdoors. Torch Direct delivered as stated and the product was in good condition when it arrived.
