Fenix E28R Rechargeable LED Torch

The Fenix E28R is a compact rechargeable torch that offers 1500 lumens maximum output from the Luminus SST40 cool white LED.

It is powered by one 18650 lithium-ion rechargeable battery and included is the Fenix ARB-L18-3400 lithium-ion battery, but it is also compatible with the other Fenix ARB-L18 battery series. Two CR123A non-rechargeable lithium metal batteries can also be used in the torch in an emergency situation but charging the torch must not be attempted with CR123A batteries inside.

The 18650 lithium-ion battery is easily recharged inside the torch via the USB-C charging port for faster charging. Remove the dust cover from the USB-C port, and plug the included cable into the torch at the USB-C end and the standard USB-A end into a computer/laptop or a suitable USB mains/car adaptor. The LED charging indicator will go red to indicate charging is in progress and will turn green once charging is complete.

The side switch activates the torch by holding it for 0.5 seconds and then each press cycles through the modes of eco, low, mid, high and turbo. Hold the switch for 0.5 seconds again to turn the light off. Strobe is activated by holding the button for 1.2 seconds and a single press will exit strobe.

To prevent accidental activation the E28R has an electronic lockout. It is accessed by two quick presses of the button while the light is off and the torch will blink twice to indicate it has entered lock-out mode, and can be unlocked in the same way.

The ultra thin optical lens provides a smooth and balanced beam, with a 94° wide beam angle which is perfect for work at close to mid range and a beam range of up to 200 metres is also possible.

A built-in battery level indicator displays the battery status for 3 seconds when the button is single pressed with the light off. It will show either a solid green, green flashing, solid red or red flashing light. A low battery voltage warning function is programmed to downshift to a lower brightness level when the voltage drops below the preset level. Once it reaches low output it will blink red to remind you to charge your 18650 battery.

Intelligent overheat protection will automatically downshift the brightness output to 900 lumens after 1 minutes constant use in turbo mode, or if the temperature reaches 60°C or above in any mode then the brightness will decrease by 5% every 10 seconds until 350 lumens is reached in order to lower the temperature.

Note: *Due to the temperature regulation the torch will use intelligent downshift to reduce the output in order to cool the torch during constant use, with it dropping to 900 lumens after 1 minute in turbo and then dropping by 5% every 10 seconds if the temperature reaches over 60°C until 350 lumens is reached. Therefore this is a cumulative run-time for the turbo output and the torch doesn't run continuously at 1500 lumens for the stated time.

Tested to ANSI/PLATO FL1 standards using one Fenix 18650 3400 mAh lithium-ion battery. The above parameters are approximate and may vary between torch, battery and environment.
