The Open 2 is Olight's first rechargeable penlight, that can be used as a light and also as an actual pen to write with.

It is a slim, single tail switch penlight that has a 3737 cool white LED built into the side of the pen at the top and is capable of 120 lumens output on the high setting and produces a wide smooth beam thanks the to the textured lens.

A single press of the button will turn the light on at the 5 lumens moon mode, which is perfect if you need a small amount of light without disturbing others and that is why it is default to come on first. It is useful for reading at night or finding the key hole in the dark.

Once on press and hold the button to cycle through to low, mid and high and release at the desired output. Instant access to high is possible with the light on or off by double pressing the button. Momentary moon output can be achieved by pressing and holding the button from off, and the light light will stay on until the button is released.

The pen nib is retractable and can be revealed by sliding the pen button, which is located on the body, along the L shape track until it locks into place and you can then begin writing. The pen has black ink and writes extremely smooth, while the twisted indent design in the aluminium body provides a good grip. An ink refill is also included and can be easily swapped over when the first one runs out.

The Open is powered by a built-in 110 mAh lithium polymer battery, which is recharged via the USB Type-C charging port. To charge the light simply unscrew the top section of the penlight, just below the blue decorative ring, and place the bottom half to one side. Plug in the included USB Type-C cable into the pen and plug the other end into a standard USB-A port or a compatible USB adaptor. The charging indicator light on the switch will go red while charging is in progress and turn off once charging is complete after approximately 55 minutes.

The beauty of having a pen and light in one is that it has two very useful features and is easy to carry, especially with the attached pocket clip. The torch can be used for small tasks and even provide light when writing in a dark room.
