The Nitecore MT1A is part of the Multi-Task series of lights, which offers incredible performance from just one AA NiMH battery.

Useful design features include a removable and reversible pocket clip, anti-roll head, forward click switch with momentary-on ability, smooth parabolic reflector for a long throw and tail stand capability for use as a candle.

Powered by one AA alkaline primary cell or one AA NiMH rechargeable cell, the MT1A has four brightness levels plus strobe and SOS flashing modes.

With the head in the tightened position the light will activate in turbo mode, lowering the output after three minutes to prevent over-heating, with the head slightly loosened the light will cycle through the other three brightness levels and two flashing modes.

High: 55 lumens; 5 hours, 30 minutes run-time
Mid: 22 lumens; 18 hours run-time

Run time

My situation and preference is for a torch that has 'sufficient' output, but a long run time. In this the MT1A is excellent.

I don' t use turbo but the high of 55 lumens is quite sufficient to navigate off the hill at night, and mid is perfect for camp tasks. After only a weeks use I suspect the run times (5.5 and 18 hrs) are actually pessimistic, so I can get a full weeks camp out of a single battery. (Low is great as a background light, and seems to go on forever).

I usually carry CR123 torches, with these (MT1A and LA10) as backup (due to easy availability of AA's) but I'd be happy enough if I only had these.

Small and light enough you can forget you're carrying, yet reliable and more than sufficient, what's not to like?

The MT1A arrived well packaged and in good time. Very light in weight, and with sealant spares, plus a clip which, if you attach it to a base-ball-cap peak, will give you a head torch. My need was to be able to see my dog in the garden at night and I now can follow him clearly with the powerful beam. The garden length is about 30 feet.

I'm very happy with this device. Initially I thought the slider mechanism felt a bit flimsy, but I have now worked through my stock of old batteries and everything works well. A bonus for me is that it will also test button cells, which my previous tested did not. Overall, a good piece of kit at a good price.

Amazing little torch

Even through I’d check the dimensions the torch was much smaller than I expected when it arrived. It feels great in hand, very robust and machined to a high standard. Various modes to choose from and when on high it is amazing how much light this tiny torch produces. Run time seems fine so far also. If in doubt, buy it and you won’t regret. As a side note, Torch Direct…. Quick and efficient service. Full marks :)

Main torch head and flexible have focusing collars.
The tiny LED head is like a fibre optic head i had for a maglite. Great for inspection inside small spaces. Very useful multifunction set.

Very bright for its size as a marker.
It’s not a torch.
The MI is the “Military” version.
It flashes IR or green and can be solid IR or green.
The green is very bright and visible.
The IR is 950nm and if you have the right thing also very bright. iPhone can just about see it.
