The Nitecore MH25GTS is a rechargeable torch that utilises a Cree XHP35 HD LED for a maximum output of 1800 lumens on the turbo setting, which is super powerful for a single 18650 battery powered torch.
Due to the high output, the MH25GTS requires a rechargeable lithium-ion 18650 high drain battery like the Nitecore NL1835HP, which is included, or a rechargeable lithium-ion IMR18650. The battery needs to have a high discharge current of at least 8 A in order to work. The MH25GTS can also use two CR123A lithium metal non rechargeable batteries or two rechargeable RCR123A lithium-ion batteries however the turbo setting is unavailable if you are using these batteries and they also cannot be charged inside the torch.
With a suitable rechargeable battery inserted into the torch, the battery can be charged whilst inside the torch using the supplied charging lead. Ensure the tail cap is tightly screwed on and then reveal the micro USB port, that is located on the tail of the torch unlike the rest of the MH series, by removing the dust cover. Plug the included cable into the charging port and the other end into a computer/laptop or a suitable USB adaptor. The blue charging indicator light will slowly flash while charging and turn solid when charging is complete. A full charge takes approximately 8 hours.
The torch is operated with the tail switch and a side mode button. The tail switch provides momentary illumination with a half press and a full press turns the torch on and off. With the light switched on, each press of the mode switch will cycle through ultra-low, low, mid, high, turbo and double press the mode button to access strobe. While on strobe, press and hold the button to cycle through SOS, location beacon and strobe settings. A single press will revert back to regular brightness settings. The last used brightness level or strobe will be remembered next time the torch is turned on.
The strobe on the MH25GTS is unlike the strobe on any other Nitecore torch at the time of release, as it is not your typical strobe that flashes at one frequency, but instead is made up of multiple frequencies that randomly change in order to provide a stronger disorientating effect.
With the light off, press and hold the mode button and then click the tail switch, releasing both buttons at the same time to instantly access ultra-low. Turbo can be momentarily accessed directly by pressing and holding the mode button with the light turned on and when the button is released it will go back to the previous brightness.
A voltage power indicator blue light is beneath the side switch and will display the voltage each time the battery is inserted. The light will flash to show the voltage, for example if the voltage is 4.2 V the light will flash four times, pause and then flash two more times.
If the mode button is pressed while the torch is off the indicator will flash to show the remaining power of the batteries. Three flashes is +50%, two flashes is below 50% and one flash is below 10%.
