The BR35 is the first bike light from Nitecore and it doesn't disappoint. It has a dual beam system that utilises two Cree XM-L2 U2 LEDs to provide a maximum output of 1800 lumens when both beams are combined. Individually the short range beam offers 800 lumens output and the long range beam offers 1000 lumens output.
The LED that provides the long range beam sits at the very front of the bike light and uses a smooth reflector to help throw the beam 176 metres. The short range LED sits underneath the light and is slightly set back to allow room for the integrated reflection board to sit above it. The board bounces the light evenly to the ground and forms a reflection area of 5 metres in diameter, that covers the blind spot under foot as well as illuminating just in front of your bike so you can see directly in front of you. This prevents oncoming drivers or pedestrians being dazzled by your light.
The light is turned on and off by holding down the M power button for 1.5 seconds and it will turn the light on in the previously used mode and brightness output. Once the light is in the + and - buttons step up and down through ow, mid, high and turbo. Instant access to turbo is activated by holding the - button when the light is on and instant access to turbo is activated by holding the + button when the light is on. A slow flashing caution light can be activated by simultaneously holding down the + and - button.
The BR35 has three modes to select from that vary depending on where you intend to ride. City mode is designed for urban riding and defaults to the short range beam with the option for momentary activation of the long range beam for 3 seconds by pressing the M button. Road mode is designed for road cycling and can be switched between the short range beam and the long range beam by pressing the M button. Trail mode is designed for off road cycling where there isn't much external light and combines the long and short range beams. Pressing the M button once will change to just short range, but can be changed back to dual by pressing the button again.
The modes can be changed between by holding down the the M button from off (as you would usually to turn the light on) but instead of releasing the button when the light comes on, continue holding the button and the light will cycle between city, road, trail and display the mode on the OLED screen. You can release the button once you reach the desired mode.
For ease of use while riding there is the option to use the handlebar mounted remote switch that has the same functionality as the M button and it has a velcro strap to accommodate a range of handle bar sizes.
The high quality handlebar mount features adjustable rubber pads to fit a wide range of handlebars and offers a quick detach function. With both thick pads it will fit handlebars between 20-25 mm, with 1 thick pad and 1 thin pad it fits 25-29 mm, with two thin pads it fits 29-35 mm and with no pads is fits 34-38 mm. Once the mount is fitted the BR35 easily slides on to it and clicks into place. To quickly remove the BR35 simply hold down the release lever on the back of the mount and slide the torch off.
The super clear OLED screen displays a battery power bar when you press any button once while the light is off and it also shows the current mode, the current brightness level and remaining run-time for the selected brightness level when the light is on. This information riders to manage remaining battery power so that they aren't left in the dark
The BR35 has a built-in 6800 mAh lithium-ion battery that is easily recharged with the included micro USB cable. Simply pop open the rubber dust cover on the side of the torch and insert the micro USB end of the cable, then plug the USB end straight into a computer USB port, or into a USB mains/car adaptor. If you use a USB wall adaptor it will need to have an output of at least 5 V, 2 A.
The blue charging indicator built into the buttons will slowly flash to show charging is in progress and the OLED screen will display the battery level. The light will automatically stop charging when the battery is fully and the indicator will turn solid blue. A full charge takes approximately 4.5 hours and once complete remember to insert the dust cover to ensure the light is weatherproof to the IPX7 rating.
The advanced temperature regulation module allows the BR35 to regulate its output and adapt to the ambient environment to maintain optimal performance.
