NEBO Luxtreme SL50 Rechargeable LED Torch

The Nebo Luxtreme SL50 is a rechargeable torch that is the second in the new Luxtreme SL range, and unlike it's little brother, this model offers only a spot LED which is capable of shining 1/2 of a mile (800 metres).

The highest setting has a maximum of 450 lumens output with a run-time of 8 hours. An orange mode selector dial on the back allows for selection of the outputs, rotating through to the left from the off position (O), to low (L), high (M) and high (H). Once the desired mode has been selected, the light can then be turned on with the trigger style button on the front of the torch, allowing for one handed mode changing and operation.

If the trigger button is pressed while the selector dial is in the off position the torch will display the battery power status via the 4 indicator LEDs above the dial. Approximate battery status is 100% with 1 red + 3 green lights, 75% with 1 red + 2 green lights, 50% with 1 red + 1 green lights and 25% with 1 red light.

Smart Power Control technology will gradually increase the light when the torch is turned on or when changing between modes, allowing the users eyes to adjust to the brightness change more easily and also to reduce the power consumption of the torch.

The torch is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack (2 x 21700) which is charged inside the torch via the USB-C charging port located on the base of the torch, and is revealed by lifting the dust cover. Simply plug the included cable into the USB-C port at one end and plug the other end into a USB power source. The last charging indicator will flash while charging is in progress until all four light are solid. A USB car charger adaptor is also included for in car charging, and the light can be ran continuously while connected to the car charger, which is handy if you need light on the go.

With an ingress protection rating of IP67, the Luxtreme SL50 is fully dust resistant and is waterproof up to 1 m depth for 30 minutes. A belt clip is attached to the base of the light, and can be taken off or attached to either side of the base to suit your needs, and a lanyard is included for extra security while carrying. There is also a magnet in the base for attaching to magnetic surfaces and it is tripod mountable with the tripod socket in the top of the head.

Note: Remove the battery isolation disc before operation.

Great bit of kit

I bought this torch as a searchlight for my sailing boat and it is everything I hoped for. Really powerful with a fantastic range on full power and really easy to use; the on/off button turns it on and off, nothing else. Selecting the brightness is done with a rotary knob and you can see what brightness it’s set to even when it’s turned off. You don’t need to read a manual or fiddle with press-and-hold buttons or anything like that. Just pick it up and use it. The other killer feature for me is that you can still use it when it’s charging up. That means when it’s plugged into a cockpit socket I have unlimited use and don’t need a separate battery and charger.

Illuminating

On the lowest level the light is a little green. Much better at the other illumination level. Takes a while to charge through the USB interface. The battery lasts well. Good for walking the dog at night around poorly illuminated roads.

What do I think of my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch. Ace!

I bought my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch quite a while ago. It has taken me a while to get to know what this amazing bit of kit can do! Well it's a torch! yes but's it's more than that! Yes I know it can be useful when taking the rubbish out to find the item you dropped out of the bag blah blah. Now I am a bit older & a bit more savvy, I have bought some work trousers with many pockets in them for all the things it seems you need to carry around in life. In the long pocket next to my Biro pen & propelling pencil is my torch with it's lanyard attached. So I always have it with me. I have found it useful in many ways, one of which was when I broke down in my very old car, I knew I would have to wait a long time for recovery, so I looked up on my phone what to do on my phone, while changing the light settings on my torch when I needed to find the problem. I had a Hi Vis jacket on, but i was in the middle of nowhere. So I used the flashing setting when the van got near so he could find me that bit easier. Yes it's still a torch you say, yes, another time I was walking down an alleyway on a short cut home, when out popped some unwanted people who I was unsure of, as I got near them they asked if they could use my phone, with that I selected the brightest mode, shone it in their faces to temporarily blind them & ran as fast as I could. So for me it's more than a torch. Something I hardly ever leave home without, useful when you lift drops his keys in an unlit pub car park in the rain on a very cold night.
Other stuff. I find the small screen that displays various different things invaluable. Especially if you are going out on a cold winters night, has the torch got enough of a charge, well you can check that, the slimness of it also comes in handy when in your best bib & tucker (a suit) you can easily hide it in your inside pocket. How long does it last, a long time, I have put a bit of string on a label for when I charge it, I charge it so infrequently I nearly forget which one it is, I do use it a lot! Cost, yes it's expensive, but you get what you pay for, very good quality. I really recommend it! Mister XR

They don't deliver yesterday, but . . . . .
