Fenix PD25R Rechargeable LED Torch

The Fenix PD25R is a compact rechargeable torch capable of 800 lumens from a Luminus SST20 LED and packs a punch with up to 250 metres beam range.

Offering five brightness levels and strobe, the PD25R is operated using the tactical tail button and the side mode button. The light is turned on and off by fulling clicking the tail switch or momentary illumination can be achieved by half pressing the tail button while the light is off. With the light turned on single presses of the side switch will cycle through eco, low, mid, high and turbo.

Holding the side button for 0.5 seconds with the light on will access the strobe setting and one press of the button will revert back to the previous brightness level. The last used brightness level except strobe will be memorised for when the light is next turned on. 

A battery level indicator will automatically display the battery status for 3 seconds each time the torch is turned on if you are using a 16340 lithium-ion battery. Constant green indicates a full charge, green flashes is sufficient charge, red constant is poor battery level and red flashes indicates critical battery level and that the battery should be charged as soon as possible.

When using a 16340 battery, if the battery voltage drops below the preset level, the torch is designed to downshift in brightness level until the eco output is reached. When eco is reached the battery level indicator will blink red to remind you to charge or replace the battery. The torch will continue to work until the over discharge protection kicks in to prevent the battery becoming overly depleted.

It is powered by one 16340 lithium-ion rechargeable battery and included is the Fenix ARB-L16-700P USB rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which is recharged via the USB-C charging port that is concealed on the body of the torch. Loosen the head of the torch to reveal the port and plug in the included USB-C cable at one end and plug the other end into a standard USB-A port or a compatible USB adaptor. The charging indicator built into the side button will go red while charging is in progress and turn green once charging is complete after approximately 2 hours.

A CR123A lithium metal non-rechargeable battery can also be used in the torch, but charging the torch must not be attempted with a CR123A battery inside.

The intelligent over-heat protection will drop the turbo brightness level if the internal temperature reaches 60°C or above once the temperature has reduced the user can reselect full brightness. This is to protect the LED from damage and prevent the surface temperature from becoming too high.

A two way pocket clip is included to allow for easy carrying on clothing or a backpack, and for hands free use can be achieved by attaching the PD25R to the peak of a cap. There is also a lanyard included for extra security while carrying or it can also be used to hand the torch when not in use.

This is a very good torch for travel, I think a whiter CREE LED and the ability to tail stand would make it perfect.

Brilliant little torch

I can't fault it really. It gets lots of use inside and outdoors and is up to the job, maybe the selector button could be easier to use but let's face it, it's a small compact very versatile torch. The service from Torch Direct was efficient and even the delivery was spot on. I really can't fault anything.

Amazing little torch

Even through I’d check the dimensions the torch was much smaller than I expected when it arrived. It feels great in hand, very robust and machined to a high standard. Various modes to choose from and when on high it is amazing how much light this tiny torch produces. Run time seems fine so far also. If in doubt, buy it and you won’t regret. As a side note, Torch Direct…. Quick and efficient service. Full marks :)

It’s not a torch.
The MI is the “Military” version.
It flashes IR or green and can be solid IR or green.
The green is very bright and visible.
The IR is 950nm and if you have the right thing also very bright. iPhone can just about see it.

What do I think of my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch. Ace!

I bought my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch quite a while ago. It has taken me a while to get to know what this amazing bit of kit can do! Well it's a torch! yes but's it's more than that! Yes I know it can be useful when taking the rubbish out to find the item you dropped out of the bag blah blah. Now I am a bit older & a bit more savvy, I have bought some work trousers with many pockets in them for all the things it seems you need to carry around in life. In the long pocket next to my Biro pen & propelling pencil is my torch with it's lanyard attached. So I always have it with me. I have found it useful in many ways, one of which was when I broke down in my very old car, I knew I would have to wait a long time for recovery, so I looked up on my phone what to do on my phone, while changing the light settings on my torch when I needed to find the problem. I had a Hi Vis jacket on, but i was in the middle of nowhere. So I used the flashing setting when the van got near so he could find me that bit easier. Yes it's still a torch you say, yes, another time I was walking down an alleyway on a short cut home, when out popped some unwanted people who I was unsure of, as I got near them they asked if they could use my phone, with that I selected the brightest mode, shone it in their faces to temporarily blind them & ran as fast as I could. So for me it's more than a torch. Something I hardly ever leave home without, useful when you lift drops his keys in an unlit pub car park in the rain on a very cold night.
Other stuff. I find the small screen that displays various different things invaluable. Especially if you are going out on a cold winters night, has the torch got enough of a charge, well you can check that, the slimness of it also comes in handy when in your best bib & tucker (a suit) you can easily hide it in your inside pocket. How long does it last, a long time, I have put a bit of string on a label for when I charge it, I charge it so infrequently I nearly forget which one it is, I do use it a lot! Cost, yes it's expensive, but you get what you pay for, very good quality. I really recommend it! Mister XR
