The Fenix LR40R is a high performance rechargeable searchlight that delivers a maximum output of 12000 lumens and a beam range of 773 when the separate flood light and spot light are combined.

The Central Cree XP-L HI LED provides a spotlight than can reach up to 640 metres with a maximum output of 1000 lumens in the high setting. Surrounding the central LED are 18 Cree XP-G3 LEDs that provide flood lighting with a maximum output of 11000 lumens and a beam range of 410 metres on the turbo setting. The spot and flood lighting are controlled separately and can be used individually or combined, however the spot cannot be used at the same time as the strobe or SOS.

Two buttons are located on the body of the torch with the left hand flood button controlling flood outputs as well as strobe and SOS, while the right hand spot button controls the spotlight outputs. Press and hold the floodlight button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and then each press will cycle through low, mid, high I, high II and turbo. Press and hold the spotlight button for 0.5 seconds to turn the light on and then each press will cycle through eco, low, mid and high. Press and hold the floodlight button for 1.2 seconds in any state to access the strobe, then single press to change to SOS and press once more to return to the previously used setting.

Holding the flood button for 0.5 seconds will turn the flood light off and holding the spot button for 0.5 seconds will turn the spot light off. If both spot and flood are on, press and hold the spot for 1.2 seconds to turn both lights off together. The last used setting will be remembered next time the light is turned on.

To prevent accidental activation the LR40R has a lockout function. To access the lockout, with the lamp turned off, press and hold both buttons for 3 seconds and the eco will blink twice to show it is in lockout. Press both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to unlock the light.

The LR40R is powered by the included ARB-L37-12000 lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack or it can also use one to four 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in an emergency situation, however the less batteries used the lower the outputs available will be. The included battery pack is charged inside the torch via the USB Type-C charging port, which is located on the neck of the torch, and QC3.0 / QC2.0 fast protocol or 5 V adaptor charging methods are supported. Lift the dust cover and plug in the USB Type-C cable at one end and plug the standard USB-A end into a USB port or a USB adaptor. The four charging indicators that sit above the two buttons will gradually illuminate until all four are solid to show charging is complete.

The four LED indicators also light up when either button is pressed when the light is off when using the included battery pack. Four LEDs is 80-100% power, three LEDs is 60-80% power, two LEDs is 40-60% power, one LED is 20-40% and one flashing LED is less than 20% power and the torch should be charged as soon as possible when at this stage.

Please note:
To avoid overheating the torch has two types of inbuilt protection. The temperature protection will lower the output of the torch if the temperature reaches 65°C or above when using turbo, high II and high I. The timed downshift will reduce the output after 2 minutes constant use in the turbo output and reduce the output after 5 minutes use in the high II output. It will reduce to 1000 lumens if the spot high mode is also being used, or 1500 lumens if it is just the flood being used.

Take two torches outside? I just shine and go....
Friday, 6 September 2019  |

This torch is the best of both worlds - a wide beam with lots of spill and/or a focussed narrow beam with lots of throw - you choose!

I usually take a torch with lots of spill when walking the dog - torches with no spill and lots of throw are pretty poor for actually seeing the ground in front of you.

But sometimes I catch sight of a possible deer or fox in the distance. This is when I regret not having a torch with lots of throw.

Now I can have both!

My previous torch was a Fenix TK72R - a torch so bright it stopped traffic! On the narrow windy country lanes I walk the dog cars would often mistake me for another car and slow down to let me pass! And this was on 2,2000 lumen setting ( higher settings got too hot for long term use ).

I've compared the LR40R with the TK72R and the flood light are on a par. So far 3000 ( high ) setting seems useable long term on the LR40R and is marginally brighter than the TK72R on 2,2000 lumens.

But on throw setting, the LR40R is amazing for seeing in to the distance. A very narrow focussed beam.

If no one is in to receive the package, it can be collected from your local Royal Mail office which will be identified on a card your postman will post though your door, or if you prefer, you can re-arrange delivery by calling the telephone number on the card.

UPS (Mainland UK only)

This delivery method is recommended if your order is required more urgently and will also be the default option if your order contains any lithium batteries that are not contained within equipment. The delivery time for this method is guaranteed 1 to 2 working days after dispatch. Non Mainland UK Delivery

You may see this option if your order partly or fully contains lithium batteries that are not contained within the item we are shipping. If your postcode is not part of the Mainland UK for postal purposes then we will determine the best way to send your item(s) and in some cases we may have to cancel the order or offer an alternative solution, this is because Royal Mail and couriers have strict rules regarding the transport of lithium batteries and in the case of couriers certain regions of the UK have increased shipping costs.
