Nitecore Thumb Rechargeable LED Key Ring Torch

The Nitecore Thumb key ring torch has a maximum output of 85 lumens white light from two high performance LEDs and comes with an integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

The feature that gives the Thumb it's name is the ability to adjust the head within a 120° angle from the vertical position, using just your thumb. Combine this with the handy pocket clip and you have yourself a useful worklight that can be attached to a belt, back pack, hat or anything else you can think of.

As well as the main white light the Thumb also offers a secondary red light output via the red LED located on the body of the torch between the switches. Red light preserves your night vision as it keeps your pupils dilated and is useful for a range of tasks including astronomy, animal tracking and map reading.

The battery is charged via a micro USB charging port on the side of the torch (cable not included) and displays a steadily illuminating red LED indicator while charging, that goes green once charging is complete.

A dual interface switch features a front button to operate the white light and a back button to operate the red light. The front button cycles through the white light in the order of high, mid, low, flash and off with each press. The back button cycles through the red light in the order of red, red flash and off with each press.

A lockout function prevents accidental activation which is activated by holding both buttons down until the red light flashes once and is unlocked the same way.

Great EDC key ring torch

I bought this torch as a cheap alternative to the S10R that I kept losing. I actually don't miss the extra lumen or more solid design of the olight. This is a really viable option as an EDC torch. Bright enough for small tasks ( it's not a search light) and the red light has proved really hand for checking to see if the kids are asleep without switching all the lights on. Small handy thing is you can clip it to a coat using the clip and position the head forwards. Shines the way and is easy to use. I really like this one torch and it is fast becoming love.

Illuminating

On the lowest level the light is a little green. Much better at the other illumination level. Takes a while to charge through the USB interface. The battery lasts well. Good for walking the dog at night around poorly illuminated roads.

What do I think of my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch. Ace!

I bought my Nitecore EDC27 Slim Rechargeable LED Torch quite a while ago. It has taken me a while to get to know what this amazing bit of kit can do! Well it's a torch! yes but's it's more than that! Yes I know it can be useful when taking the rubbish out to find the item you dropped out of the bag blah blah. Now I am a bit older & a bit more savvy, I have bought some work trousers with many pockets in them for all the things it seems you need to carry around in life. In the long pocket next to my Biro pen & propelling pencil is my torch with it's lanyard attached. So I always have it with me. I have found it useful in many ways, one of which was when I broke down in my very old car, I knew I would have to wait a long time for recovery, so I looked up on my phone what to do on my phone, while changing the light settings on my torch when I needed to find the problem. I had a Hi Vis jacket on, but i was in the middle of nowhere. So I used the flashing setting when the van got near so he could find me that bit easier. Yes it's still a torch you say, yes, another time I was walking down an alleyway on a short cut home, when out popped some unwanted people who I was unsure of, as I got near them they asked if they could use my phone, with that I selected the brightest mode, shone it in their faces to temporarily blind them & ran as fast as I could. So for me it's more than a torch. Something I hardly ever leave home without, useful when you lift drops his keys in an unlit pub car park in the rain on a very cold night.
Other stuff. I find the small screen that displays various different things invaluable. Especially if you are going out on a cold winters night, has the torch got enough of a charge, well you can check that, the slimness of it also comes in handy when in your best bib & tucker (a suit) you can easily hide it in your inside pocket. How long does it last, a long time, I have put a bit of string on a label for when I charge it, I charge it so infrequently I nearly forget which one it is, I do use it a lot! Cost, yes it's expensive, but you get what you pay for, very good quality. I really recommend it! Mister XR
