I bought this torch because I wanted a torch with a fairly strong red beam for helping to preserve my night vision, as I worried that torches with dimmer red beams would not illuminate a large enough area (to clearly see uneven ground in a field, for example). I'm very pleased with the output of the red LEDs, though I don't know if they match the 210 lumen output of the white LED. The white LED can be used when I don't have to worry about my eyes dark adaptation, and just need more light, and it provides a lot of light for such a portable torch. Mine, unlike Colin's below, cycles through white first, then green, then red. The difference might be important to note for darkness-adaptation purposes. I think the impression the G&R manufacturer makes two versions of the XG01. I'll be keeping this torch.

Having recently purchasrd one of these, I have found very easy to use, the small size makes it easy to carry, and the power of the light is something of a surprise when you see the actual size of the torch. Only 2 little gripes, when first turned on, the torch should use the white light and not have to go through the red , green options first. And I'm still not sure what the small brass tube which came with it is for? .Besides these, excellent torch for the cost. * Note by TD - The braas tube is to allow a Li-ion battery to fit (18650 type)*
